Weekend With Friends

Last weekend we went to visit our friends in the Florida Panhandle. We had so much fun hanging out by the pond, taking long walks, eating delicious food and watching football. That's the life as far as I'm concerned. They are way out in the country and I don't have Internet access. This is really good for me, but I do miss it. Here's the page I made about the weekend.

I made another page this weekend about my impatiens. They come up from seed every year and I just transplant them, saving me the time and expense of buying flats of annuals for my shady areas. I'm not sure that the seedlings bloom as well as the ones from the nursery, though. This year we dug out a new bed where the grass wasn't growing well, and I put the free impatiens there. They did pretty well I guess.

I just love this new stamped alphabet from Katie Pertiet. It reminds me of my paper scrapping days. And the yard is much happier today because we got some rain; I think it's the first rain here in the month of September!

Thanks to my brother Jeff; this photo came from his camera. It's me and my family minus one son, my mom, my sister Jane, and Jeff and Jana and their daughter Beth. We were at the beach in Panama City and had gone out to dinner. A nice lady took this shot of us as we were leaving!

He's Employed!

It's a jungle out there. It's so hard for a new college graduate to find a job. Since Jesse finished classwork in May, he has worked at a tent selling Oriental rugs and at a short lived stint at a car wash. I won't go into details; let's just say these jobs helped him pay his bills. Last week, he finally got an interview for a job at a bank. Mark had to take him shopping for clothes, and he really looked sharp in them. Two days after the interview, they offered him the job. We are all very happy for him! 

 

Jesse Graduated!

We went to Tuscaloosa again yesterday for Jesse's graduation. He got a Bachelor of Arts degree and graduated cum laude. It was such a proud moment for us. I made this page using photos of Jesse and his girlfriend Ashley that I took after the ceremony.

 

Moving Day is Tomorrow

To college, that is. So to honor the event, I made this page about how your kids just seem to clear out your home so as to furnish their new one. My friend who is also going through this stage said she feels like a new bride trying to decorate her first home. 

I got the definition for this from dictionary.com and added the following journaling: Or: In anticipation of leaving for college, Jonathan confiscated all the available household furnishings stored in the attic, rock room and hall closets. All supplies Digital Scrapbooking.

The truck is rented and will be loaded tomorrow and we'll be off.

 

My Page is at GSO!

This may not mean much if you're not a digital scrapbooker, but Gallery Standouts is a site that features digital scrapbook pages from around the Internet on a daily basis. Today I'm proud to say they picked this page (second from the bottom if you scroll down):

 

It's for another All About Me Challenge, on "The Music of My Life" at Digital Scrapbooking. (The link is to the challenge page where you can see the other pages posted for this challenge.) This really made me think. In the '70s, I knew just about every pop/rock song on the radio. The albums on the left side of this page were part of my coming of age, and are just mind melded into my consciousness. I didn't listen to music too much in the '80s, as I was busy with medical school, internship, and bringing 4 sons into the world. (My sons now tell me that I didn't miss too much in that decade as far as music goes.) Then as they got older and started listening to music, I got back into it too. And now I am rediscovering how much I like pop music and I have some new favorite artists. I listen to Pandora while I work out and the XM pop channels in my car. I still like the old stuff too. Hence the layout of this page; a really fun one to create.

A Couple of Layouts

We had a wonderful 4th of July weekend. One of the nicest things was that our nephew Kevin and his wife Mandy had their baby boy on the 4th! We thought they might name him "Sam"! They chose "Caleb", which is so sweet. We got to see pictures of him on Facebook and he is a doll. Of course I remember Kevin as a baby so it just makes it all the more incredible. To celebrate, I pulled out this photo of Kevin and Mandy that I took this spring. For my layout, I used a color scheme from Kuler called "Born on the Fourth of July". 

 

I love Kuler because you can take a screenshot of the color scheme and open it in Photoshop, then use the eyedropper tool to sample the colors for your page.

At Digital Scrapbooking, we have an All About Me Challenge going on. I have posted a few of the pages I made for this before. This week we are scrapping our nicknames. At first, I thought I didn't have enough to mention, but I guess you do accumulate more than you think. I had a blast with this one!

Feeling Stuck

 

This is Chipper in our side yard. He faithfully follows me around the back while I do my gardening. But when I go past the halfway point on the side, he can't follow because the electric fence is buried underground there. So he stands there watching me, barking till I come back.

My Wonderful Family

I was lucky enough to get a copy of this photo of my Dad and siblings when they met for a lunch date recently. My sister Jane was in town and met up with my brothers Jeff and Bill as well as my dad. I am so sorry I missed this chance. They look like they are having a great time. I made a layout about them called "Middle 3". The journaling reads: 

As the oldest sibling, I tend to be bossy and overly concerned about rules. Jim, the youngest, was in the position of being coddled. These three, as the middle children, demonstrate a wider variety of personality traits. They tend to be flexible and easy-going. They like to keep the peace and are generous.  They learned to be independent and self-reliant. They have enriched my life beyond measure!

 

This got me thinking about the birth order of my own children. I read the opinions of experts on this topic. Although I like to think that I treated them all the same as they grew up, I'm sure I tended to follow the same patterns of behavior of generations of parents before me. And I'm not sure that children being treated differently according to where they fall in the lineup is such a bad thing. Through it, we learn coping skills that enable us to be productive happy adults. We probably choose our particular life's path based on the skill set we developed. I'll be keeping this in mind as my sons embark on that phase of life where they choose a career and a mate. Interesting stuff!
